Local Food Pantries in St. Cloud

Thanksgiving is rolling around, which means family and friends will be coming together for a feast before you know it. This holiday season, however, we here at Don Robinson Mitsubishi would like to ask you to give a little back to your community. The local food pantries in St. Cloud could use your donations in preparation this coming holiday.

The Salvation Army Food Shelf is one of the major food pantries in our area. Hours of operation are Monday through Friday between 1pm and 3pm as well as Tuesday and Thursday between 9am and 11am.

Those in need should note that there’s a one visit per month limit and you’ll need a photo ID and proof of address as well. The Salvation Army Food Shelf in St. Cloud, Minnesota serves the Benton, Sherburne, and Stearns counties.

It doesn’t matter how little or how much you give—every bit helps feed the hungry and less fortunate in our very own community.

If you don’t have anything to give, consider volunteering your time instead. Contact the food pantry directly at (320) 252-4552. Potential volunteers can also fill out a volunteer application and drop it off at the Worship and Service Center located at 400 U.S. Highway 10 South.

family Halloween costume

You have a few more weeks until Halloween, which is enough time to put the final touches on everyone’s Halloween costumes. If you and your family really want to go all out this year, consider a family Halloween costume. Here are some great ideas that are sure to win the next costume contest.

  • Space Family. With this theme, you could combine astronauts and aliens. Anything silver is a good choice.
  • One parent can dress as a zookeeper while everyone else can choose their favorite animal costume.
  • Despicable Me. Have Dad dress as Gru, Mom can be Lucy Wilde, and the kids can all be cute yellow Minions.
  • Football team. Parents can dress as referees, while the little ones can pack on the pads and helmets. If you have a newborn, dress the baby as the football.
  • For a touch of scary for your family costume, try some creepy costumes from this classic movie.
  • Lord of the Rings. Create your own fellowship with your favorite characters from this iconic book and movie series.
  • Toy Story. Let your kids choose their favorite characters from the Toy Story movies and Mom and Dad can fill in the gaps.

last production lancer evolution

We were all heartbroken when we learned that Mitsubishi was ending production of the Lancer Evolution permanently. However, there is a silver lining. Mitsubishi has auctioned off the last production Lancer Evolution to raise money for charity.

The Final Edition Evo is powered by a turbocharged DOHC 16-valve four-cylinder 2.0-liter engine rated at 303 horsepower—the most powerful mass-produced Evolution ever built.

Mitsubishi only produced 1,600 of its Final Edition Evolution model and the US1600 car went to the online auction block on eBay. All proceeds from the auction will benefit Feeding America Riverside & San Bernardino and the Second Harvest Food Bank of Orange County.

Over the course of seven days, 15 bidders from across the country battled it out to keep the highest bid. In the end, the Final Edition sold for $76,400.

Nicole Suydam, CEO of Second Harvest Food Bank of Orange County, said, “Too many people in our community are forced to make hard choices between rent and food, or medicine and food. Mitsubishi’s auction of the final Lancer Evolution will make a big difference in the lives of so many men, women and children who look to us for support every day. We are very grateful for their generosity.”

Here at Don Robinson Mitsubishi, we are sad to see the Lancer Evolution go, but are proud to see Mitsubishi donate this iconic vehicle to such a great cause.

get in a car accident

If you’re ever unfortunate enough to get in a car accident, there are several steps you should take quickly to ensure the safety of yourself and anyone else involved in the crash.

First, try not to panic. It would be easy to in a situation like that, but just take a deep breath.  Also be sure to check yourself for injuries, then make sure any passengers in your car are awake and unhurt. If there are injuries beyond scratches and scrapes, call an ambulance—better safe than sorry.

For minor accidents, if no one is hurt and the damage isn’t bad, move your car off of the road.  This will keep you from blocking traffic and causing more accidents to occur.  Turn on your hazard lights and put out cones if you have them so oncoming cars know to avoid you.

Get the information of anyone else involved in the accident, and call the police. No incident is too minor for police to get involved. Then notify your insurance agent. Take notes while you’re on the scene so you have them for insurance claims. If other drivers are involved, don’t get into arguments with them about whose fault it was.  You can argue that later with the insurance companies. Talk to them as little as possible and give as much information as you can to the police and the insurance company.

Mitsubishi Night Drive campaign

On the heels of Ford’s first-ever mobile Escape the Room game in the 2017 Ford Escape, Mitsubishi too is trying to hook young drivers through innovative test driving programs. Mitsubishi has launched “Night Drive,” a campaign that invites drivers to virtually test drive the new Mirage G4.

The website turns the user’s smartphone into a steering wheel and lets gives them feel like they’re driving the car from home. Mitsubishi says their target audience with the affordable, feature-packed Mirage G4 is young buyers, who are more environmentally conscious when it comes to fuel use and want smaller cars they can easily drive in cities.

The Mitsubishi Night Drive campaign asks testers to use both their smartphone and laptop to test specific features in the Mitsubishi Mirage G4. Tapping the gas pedal button on your smartphone starts a demonstration of the Hill Start Assist feature that helps the car move up a steep incline.

Mitsubishi says this program is a “new marketing launch for us” and that this could be a smart alternative to trying to get buyers to the dealership for initial test driving. This way, buyers can experience the car from their homes and get an idea of what they want, making them more likely to come to the dealership.

Summertime by George Festival

Live in or near the St. Cloud area in Minnesota? Every year, the Rotary Club at St. George takes advantage of the summer heat to hold the annual Summertime by George Festival on the shores of the newly-renovated Lake George. The festival began in June, but runs for 12 weeks every Wednesday until August 26th. The event opens to the public at 5pm; the music begins at 6 and lasts until 9.

Admission to Summertime by George is entirely free to the public. Other activities at the festival include the Middle Town Market, providing access to a diverse variety of local vendors and food. The Eastman Tavern is nearby and serves craft beers, wine, and snacks, and the little ones can play to their hearts’ content in Little Georgetown. There’s also a trolley that runs through the area every 10 minutes Wednesday evenings, which makes parking much easier.

The Summertime by George Festival celebrates fun, live musical performances as well as local artisans and culture, nearby eateries, and area breweries. Whether you’re getting a drink with friends or looking for an evening with your family, Lake George has an all-summer-long event to keep you entertained.  Stop in and tell us all about it at Don Robinson Mitsubishi.

Summer pet safety

Everything overheats in the summertime — your car, your house, your kids, you. It seems like you can’t keep the air conditioning cold enough, ice cream melts too fast to enjoy, and the pool is too full with other people trying to regulate their temperature. However, you might be taking advantage of the warm weather by bringing your pet dog along for a ride when you’re running errands, but you need to be aware of the risks of your pet overheating, too. Summer pet safety is something that’s often overlooked.

The problem with dogs is that their fur holds in body heat. Even if you leave the windows cracked while you’re running into the grocery store, the heat inside of the vehicle can quickly skyrocket. Dogs need air conditioning and water just as much as humans do. Just a half hour of leaving your pet in a parked vehicle can cause the inside of the car to jump to 120 degrees. Shade, low humidity, and watching for heatstroke symptoms — heavy panting, glazed eyes, rapid heartbeat, dizziness, and even vomiting — can help owners take care of their pet.

Summer pet safety may seem like common sense, but many people continue leaving their dogs in parked cars in the summer heat, assuming that it’ll just be a quick errand or cracking the windows will be enough to regulate the temperature. The truth is that’s not the case, and keeping your pet healthy will keep them with you for a long time.

We love pets here at Don Robinson Mitsubishi and want to do our part to help with Pet Safety.  For more information about our local Humane Society here in St. Cloud, stop by the Tri County Humane Society!

Motorcycle Safety

When the weather gets warmer, the road becomes flush with motorcyclists. Did you know that over half of all fatal motorcycle crashes involve another vehicle, and that most of those are at the fault of the car or truck driver? It’s extremely important to keep motorcycle safety a priority. Here are some tips to help you and motorcyclists:

When you’re turning left, look for traffic – The number one cause of fatal accidents for motorcyclists is when a vehicle turns in front of them. When you’re turning left, make sure you look out for motorcyclists.

Increase your following distance – Motorcyclists have a much quicker stopping distance than cars do. This means that if they stop suddenly and you’re following too close, your chances of rear-ending them are high. Since they also often slow down by downshifting, this doesn’t activate the brake light. So make sure you’re paying attention.

Allow them to swerve – Motorcyclists often adjust their position in a lane to be seen better or to avoid things like potholes and debris. Give them room in the lane to do so if you’re passing them, and don’t ever try to share the lane with them.

Follow these tips and you’ll have a safe and happy spring!  Be sure to stop in and see us at Don Robinson Mitsubishi this spring for some great deals on new Mitsubishi models!

Synthetic Oil

We’ve all been there before—you’re at the mechanic to get your oil changed when they ask if you’d like synthetic or conventional oil. Now, it’s likely you’ve heard these terms before. But what do they mean? Conventional oil is a lubricant derived directly from crude oil. It does have good properties that give it lubrication at higher temperatures. Synthetic oil starts out as conventional oil but is then modified.

Here are some benefits to synthetic oil:

  • Better lubrication – Added lubricants increase the slickness of the oil to help your parts and engine last longer.
  • Improved protection – “Dry starts” are something that often happens with conventional oil when your car has been sitting for a long time. This pulls the oil down to the bottom of the engine, which causes the components at the top to run unprotected. But with synthetic oil, it maintains viscosity and the additives decrease this “dry start” risk.
  • Less breakdown – Synthetic oil takes longer to break down, which means you don’t need to change it as often as conventional oil.
  • Reduced deposits – When conventional oil breaks down, deposits can form on engine components. Synthetic oils are less likely to do this and therefore leave your engine cleaner.

Now that you know some of the benefits, are you ready to try synthetic oil? To find out more about which type of oil would best benefit your vehicle; stop by Don Robinson Mitsubishi today to find out more. Also be sure to ask about our $9.88 Oil Change special only at Don Robinson Mitsubishi!

Spring Cleaning

As the weather warms, it can only mean one thing: spring cleaning. This time of year is perfect for washing away dirt and debris, giving your car a fresh, clean look. We’ve put together a list of five spring cleaning tips for your car.

According to Fox News, slush, salt, and cold temperatures can be especially harmful on your car, leading to corrosion. One important area to clean that you don’t normally see is the underbody. Salt from the road can coat the bottom of your car, doing serious damage. Check your local car wash to see if they have an undercarriage power wash. If not, simply spray it off with a hose.

Next, clean the exterior paint and the interior fabric or leather. Make sure to scrub the hard to reach places, like the bottoms of doors, window channels, and around the wheel wells. Also, get a steam cleaner if possible to remove any salt that may have been tracked to the interior.

After this is done, replace your wiper blades. Winter can be especially harsh on your wipers, making the spring the perfect time to get a new pair. You might also consider applying RainX or other treatments that may have worn off.

Don’t forget to check your tires! Tire pressure increases for every 10-degree rise in temperature. Make sure tires are at the proper psi (pressure per square inch) rating. You may also check for uneven wear, cracking, or low tread. Warmer weather is a great time to consider new tires.

Finally, top off your fluids. Make sure wiper fluid is at proper levels, and also check oil, transmission fluid, antifreeze/coolant, brake fluid, power steering fluid, and any other systems you might have. This is also a great time of year to change your oil, giving your car a fresh start for warmer weather.
