Mitsubishi Lancer | St. Cloud, MN
The out-of-production Mitsubishi Lancer EVO was famous in the 1990s and 2000s as an iconic rally legend—until it retired from production. Now, performance enthusiasts have reason to get excited, as a new report indicates that the Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution is set to make a comeback.
The Lancer EVO first took the rally world by storm when it launched in 1992. Featuring a bold exterior, a light body, and plenty of spirit under the hood, the Lancer EVO was an instant classic that still holds a special place in the hearts of drivers worldwide.
The decision to focus more on efficient and versatile SUVs led Mitsubishi to end production of the Lancer EVO in 2016. And while the choice was sound from a business standpoint, it disappointed everyone, nonetheless.
Now, the Mitsubishi Lancer EVO seems to be poised for a triumphant return, according to a new report. Made possible by the alliance between Mitsubishi, Nissan, and Renault, the all-new Mitsubishi Lancer EVO would be a welcome return to the Mitsubishi lineup. Reports indicate that the all-new Lancer would share the same platform as the next-generation Renault Megane RS and would feature a potent 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine.
While we don’t have a clear idea of when the Mitsubishi Lancer EVO return would be, it gives us plenty to get excited about in the meantime. Check out our selection of other New Mitsubishi models here at Don Robinson Mitsubishi in the meantime.
