St. Cloud parks offer great opportunities for you and your family to get out into nature. Local parks provide hiking trails to traverse on a sunny Minnesota day, and these are the nature spots nearby that we recommend.

Munsinger Gardens

Munsinger Gardens sits along the banks of the Mississippi River across from St. Cloud State University. Miles of winding paths give you a chance to get out into the fresh air and sunshine without traveling very far. They’re open daily during the spring, summer, and fall.

Sherburne National Wildlife Refuge

There is plenty of nature to see at the Sherburne National Wildlife Refuge. It is a wildlife sanctuary through August 31, and offers hiking trails, fishing spots, and a canoe route. Some areas are open to hunting after September 1, so check the park website for information before you go. The refuge is open from sunrise to sunset every day in season.

Quarry Park and Nature Preserve

Spanning 684 acres, Quarry Park and Nature Preserve is the largest park in Stearns County. The land consists of woodlands, prairies, wetlands, and rock formations, with many species of native plants here.  The Park is open from 8:00 AM to sunset year-round, and parking permits are required.

For an eco-friendly vehicle to explore Minnesota in with your family and take on a scenic road trip, check out the Mitsubishi Outlander or Outlander PHEV at Don Robinson Mitsubishi.

If you’re in search of a challenge, you’ll get exactly that on the Worm Gear and Little America runs. For those just starting out, Andes Tower Hills has an ample Terrain Park for practice as well as available instruction.

Powder Ridge

St. Cloud’s favorite and most accessible ski resort is Powder Ridge, which sits under half an hour outside of the city. Popular for its affordable admission — including events like Two for Tuesdays and Wild Wednesday — Powder Ridge is a beloved destination for first dates, outings with friends, or just breaking away for a good time after a busy week at work. If you’ve never been to one of the resort’s Lazer Light Tubing nights, you’re missing out.

Como Park Ski Center

The Como Park Ski Center in St. Paul offers 15 skiable, beautifully maintained acres of terrain perfect for all ages and experiences. The center is a great place to take your young ones if you want them to learn the ropes, offering affordable lessons for downhill skiing, cross-country skiing, and snowboarding. If you love to ski, you’ll love the new Mitsubishi crossover family. From the Eclipse Cross to the Outlander Sport to the Outlander, Mitsubishi crossovers provide comfort for as many as six passengers while leaving plenty of space for your skis and gear. What’s more, with available All-Wheel Control and Super All-Wheel Control, they’ll handle just about anything the St. Cloud winter weather can throw at them. If you’re looking for a weekend getaway in your Mitsubishi, consider the many Minnesota National Parks and Forests. You can explore the outdoors by visiting Voyageurs, Whitewater, or Great River Bluffs State Park, which are just three of the many beautiful places that are a short drive from Don Robinson Mitsubishi.

According to the National Park Service, Voyagers National Park is over 40 percent water in terms of coverage, with a massive network of waterways. Many adventurers like to bring their own watercraft or take a park ranger boat tour, though there are also campsites and hiking trails to visit as well.

Whitewater State Park is one of the top places to visit in southeast Minnesota bringing in many outdoors explorers for day trips. Attractions include advanced hiking trails, scenic bluffs, trout fishing (in summer and winter), and a visitor center. In the spring, be sure to visit for the wildflowers.

Another top park in southeast Minnesota is Great River Bluffs, which lives up to its name. This location lets you see the Mississippi River Valley, and there are also camping and hiking opportunities. Bird watching is a popular activity, and there are also prairies with rare plants and flowers.
