Have you ever wondered how cars get their unique names? Here is an explanation of the names of Mitsubishi models you’ll find at Don Robinson Mitsubishi in Saint Cloud, MN.

Mitsubishi Outlander

The Outlander was first known as the Airtrek when it debuted in Japan. Mitsubishi wanted to give buyers the feeling that they were “free as a bird” in this full-size SUV. The focus eventually shifted instead on the model’s adventurous nature and the name changed to one embodying the wild Australian lands. The Outback is Mitsubishi’s best-selling model in the U.S. and is also available in a Sport version or as an electric vehicle.

Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross

The first Mitsubishi vehicle to bear the name of Eclipse was a sporty compact. According to Mitsubishi Motors, the Eclipse was named after a victorious English racehorse that had dominated in two dozen races. When the automaker decided to retire the Eclipse and expand its crossover offerings, Mitsubishi kept the name and added “Cross” to it.

Mitsubishi Mirage

The name Mirage comes from the Latin word “mirai” and that translates to “to wonder at or look at” in English. The original Mirage model is one of Mitsubishi’s oldest offerings, but it left the market in 2003. However, it was so popular that Mitsubishi brought it back in 2012 and buyers continue to look at it today.

The Mitsubishi Outlander, Eclipse Cross and Mirage have unique names that reflect their personalities, and these models are available at Don Robinson Mitsubishi today.
